Led by Maj. Horatio
Applegate, the Marching Baptists have been an annual fixture at
the Downtown Founder's Day festivities since the turn of the
19th century. Lacking the necessary funding to procure
instruments, the Marching Baptists carry on valiantly with comb
and tissue to hum in unison their favorite rendition of "O
For A Thousand Tongues To Sing." Recently, funding for a
sousaphone fell through when the money was diverted to pay for
indoor plumbing in the church--- a small price to pay for a
convenient toilet after a long sermon. |
