Led by Maj. Horatio Applegate, the Marching Baptists have been an annual fixture at the Downtown Founder's Day festivities since the turn of the 19th century. Lacking the necessary funding to procure instruments, the Marching Baptists carry on valiantly with comb and tissue to hum in unison their favorite rendition of "O For A Thousand Tongues To Sing." Recently, funding for a sousaphone fell through when the money was diverted to pay for indoor plumbing in the church--- a small price to pay for a convenient toilet after a long sermon.
